There is a longstanding stigma that those of us with a desire to work in sales are only driven by the financial benefits the industry can offer, however this idea that all salespeople are Jordan Belfort wannabes or idolise Monopoly’s Rich Uncle Pennybags’ are simply untrue. Finances are an extremely important factor when considering a career in sales as they are with most positions, but it is not the only the only benefit and motivator for people working within this industry.

If you have childcare to consider or other responsibilities that require you to be available at certain points of the day when you would usually be tied down in an office, field sales gives you the opportunity and freedom to plan your entire work day around your needs, which can offer a better work/life balance that so many of us crave.
Working within business development can also provide you with the opportunity to solve difficult problems for other people, achieved through supplying goods or services that can aid another individual to the mutual benefit of both parties and actually give real benefit and happiness to customers. Not all products that need sold are bad, in fact the majority are genuinely providing a real positive experience to people.
Another draw to work in sales is the different experiences you can encounter. For example, account managers at one of our pet product suppliers, get the opportunity to go out and meet other pet enthusiasts (And their pets) across the UK. Making it not just a sales role but a career allowing that individual to indulge in their passion for animals, taking a sales role in an industry you have a genuine affinity and motivation to promote, allows you to make money pushing something you believe in.
